[17:37] <uruk-hai> guys! i am compiling scummvm with mingw, and everything is fine, the thing compiles, except it dies at linking with this:

[18:25] <somaen> Doesn't mean it isn't the exact same as the Steam-version.
[18:26] <somaen> Which might also be DRM-free apart from the installation. (I've seen a few of those games that start fine without Steam running)
[18:28] <somaen> Being on steam doesn't equate to having Steam DRM. Having Steam DRM does also not remove the option of additional DRM, like SecuROM.

[18:29] <somaen> Why bother though, presumably beyond some point you're just making life harder for the people that buy the game.

[18:31] <fuzzie> and since the Steam releases are scummvm they won't be DRMed post-install.
[18:31] <somaen> Since from what I've heard, most of the money is gained just after release, so delaying the pirates a day extra is well worth it.
[18:31] <fydo> but the publishers need to show their investors that they are actively working against the pirates, even though it's almost completely ineffectual
[18:32] <fuzzie> yes, if you remove your idiotic DRM after a few weeks then all is forgiven.

[18:34] <somaen> Anyhow, unless they've added DRM inside ScummVM, or something odd like a virtual filesystem fed into ScummVM, you can in any case just plug in your favourite build of ScummVM after downloading.
[18:35] <somaen> fydo: The fact that the rest of the business went over the top for a while on the DRM, was probably good for business for CD Projekt RED.
