[10:04] <_sev> maxyodedara5: hey
[10:05] <_sev> maxyodedara5: this is for developing a tool which would let us package games for many platforms. E.g. in a bundle of ScummVM and game data
[10:05] <_sev> maxyodedara5: so, a game could be published on those markets
[10:15] <maxyodedara5> and is there any reference book i can get for GUI or Will I have to make do from the documentation itself
[10:20] <Joefish> hi _sev. did you get my mail concerning the mission supernova sorce?
[10:21] <_sev> Joefish: ah, I see it now
[10:21] <_sev> maxyodedara5: there is no GUI. How I envision it, it should be some kind of an XML-based format, and then several formats to output
[10:21] <_sev> maxyodedara5: it must be done easily expandable.
[10:22] <_sev> maxyodedara5: then, there must be Makefile goals for packing it, similar to how we pack now the release packages
[10:22] <_sev> Joefish: reading
[10:23] <_sev> Joefish: I will provide partial source, and generic stats
[10:23] <maxyodedara5> i didnt understand the last thing about makefile goals and release packages
[10:23] <Joefish> _sev: alright. thanks :)
[10:24] <maxyodedara5> xml based format i understood a bit
[10:24] <_sev> Joefish: e.g.

[10:29] <maxyodedara5> _sev: and if i were to start making a GUI How would I start doing so (Is there a handbook or something which has all the details ?)

[10:32] <maxyodedara5> no
[10:32] <maxyodedara5> not about packaging system
[10:33] <_sev> maxyodedara5: okay, please tell me more. Which GUI task specifically?

[10:33] <maxyodedara5> i thought why not add the older themes to the gui

[13:46] <logix> I understand what you mean, I admit that I'm annoyed if I see code with more than the occasional non-english variable/function names - but if that's really all, then I think I'd manage no matter in which they are (as long as there are online translaters where I can paste them and get a somewhat meaningful translation)
[13:46] <logix> but, granted, it's harder to get a quick idea of the important functions in the code

[14:27] <criezy> Joefish: It's not just you. I have to deal regularly with 80's fortran code where all variables have names like A, B, C, D or E. Not only does it make it more difficult to know what that variable is when you first encounter it, but it also make it more difficult to remember what it is when you see it again (and having to backtrack to check what the variable is used for).
[14:27] <criezy> And I can imagine that code in chinese, swedish or russian would do the same to me.

[14:40] <t0by> I have trouble reading code with variable names in my native language.
[14:41] <t0by> "while (prosegui) do if (condizione) then operazione1 else operazione2" confuses me because of the mixture of languages.
[14:47] <Joefish> know how you feel. just stick to english and consistent code style so my eyes don't start to bleed damnit. but all that doesn't help when as in criezy's case the description doesn't reflect its purpose at all

[14:55] <criezy> Hi Daniel / Guest79466
[14:56] <Pala> Hello, I just changed from Daniel
[14:56] <Pala> I have a question about the Mortville Manor
[14:56] <criezy> And what is your question?
[14:57] <-- Guest79466 left irc: Ping timeout: 260 seconds
[14:58] <Pala> There are some TTS system based on Java, and because of that JRE is required. So is it a valid option to stick with a Java TTS or native only ?
[14:59] <criezy> Java doesn't seem like a good fit, except maybe on Android.
[15:01] <Pala> Yeah thought so. Then I think that Qt Speech would be the best. It wraps the 3 best platform dependent APIs, SAPI on Win, NNSpeechSynthesizer on OSS abd Speech Dispatcher on Linux
[15:01] <Pala> What do you think ?
[15:02] <Pala> I haven't found any other universal solution.
[15:03] <Pala> Most of them either lacks German or French, or doesn't support every platfrom.
[15:04] <criezy> Qt is quite a big dependency. If we were already using it on the backend side this would be good fit.
[15:04] <criezy> But we are not using it yet, and pulling a dependency to Qt only for its TTS API does seem a bit extreme to me.
[15:04] <Pala> Then the APIs it wraps could be used I think.
[15:04] <criezy> Yes
[15:05] --> omer_mor joined #scummvm.
[15:06] <Pala> Okay, thank you. Should I start with the code ?
[15:06] <Pala> Or what would be the next step ?
[15:07] <criezy> As part of your GSoC application you are expected to provide a pull request. This could for example be to fix a bug from our bug tracker.
[15:07] <criezy> https://bugs.scummvm.org/report/9
[15:07] <criezy> We can help with finding a suitable small task.
[15:08] <-- omer_mor_ left irc: Ping timeout: 260 seconds
[15:08] <Pala> Okay, that would be great.
[15:08] <criezy> That will show us that you are up to speed with compiling ScummVM, navigating through the code, modifying it and using git.
[15:08] <criezy> All skills that you will need for the GSoC proper.
[15:09] <criezy> I am reading through the bugs right now to see what would be suitable.
[15:10] <Pala> I see a Mortville bug, that the French version is not detected.
[15:10] <criezy> Do you already have the ScummVM source code and have you compiled it?
[15:10] <Pala> No not yet but I can do it today a bit later.
[15:13] <criezy> That Mortville bug is a bit tracky because we don't actually have the version of the game that is causing problem.
[15:13] <Pala> Oh, I see.
[15:13] <criezy> The detection was already added, but we expect tht more changes need to be made, although we don't know which since we cannot test.
[15:15] <criezy> What OS are you developing on?
[15:15] <Pala> I am on Windows

[15:19] <Pala> I see you have instructions for compiling under VS so I think I will stick with that.
[15:20] <logix> criezy: variable names like A, B, C, D, E are a different issue - but with non-english variable names you can just translate, search and replace the first time you encounter a new one
[15:20] <logix> with A, B, ... you first have to find out the meaning yourself
[15:20] <logix> so yeah, that's harder
[15:21] <-- omer_mor left irc: Ping timeout: 260 seconds
[15:23] <criezy> Also one of the issue with A, B, C, D is that the same name is used in different places for completly different purposes. So a search and replace has to be in the current scope only.
[15:24] <criezy> Pala, maybe that one https://bugs.scummvm.org/ticket/9701
[15:24] <criezy> The main issue is to decide what to do (there are suggestions in the bug report). The coding itself should be relatively easy.
[15:25] <t0by> Pala: hi and welcome!
[15:25] <criezy> But you can browse the bug tracker and see what tickles your interest.
[15:28] <Pala> This seems a perfect task to start with thank you!
