[16:12] <m_kiewitz> in multilingual kq5, kPlatform was a nop
[16:14] <m_kiewitz> the very first sci1.1 game - qfg3 demo - has the exact same code for kPlatform as King's Quest 6
[16:18] <snover> so the answer to my question is that, no, you dont know of any sci16 game that uses kPlatform subops 0 through 3?
[16:18] <m_kiewitz> Fairy Tales demo - one of the last sci1 games, also has a nop for kPlatform
[16:18] <m_kiewitz> for that i would have to decompile all sorts of games
[16:18] <m_kiewitz> im normally going according to disassembly, not according to game scripts unless it's required
[16:19] <m_kiewitz> in theory kPlatform could have been a debug command before, which would explain this

[18:28] <wjp> from previous conversations, I think the consensus here is that it has expired

[18:30] <omer_mor> waltervn: http://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php/SCI/FreeSCI/Pathfinding/Patent
[18:31] <omer_mor> Actually that's just the patent section. The full report is at http://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php/SCI/FreeSCI/Pathfinding
[18:31] <omer_mor> What brought me to this topic was bug #7155 : https://sourceforge.net/p/scummvm/bugs/7155/
[18:32] <omer_mor> m_kiewitz said "This may be a pathfinding issue. We do not use the exact pathfinding algo that Sierra used because of patent issues."
[18:32] <waltervn> Figure 4 is probably the most interesting, and shows a major flaw in the Sierra algorithms. Once you know about this flaw, you notice it now and then when you play SSCI games in dosbox
[18:32] <m_kiewitz> Figure 4?
[18:33] <omer_mor> waltervn: care to explain?
[18:33] <omer_mor> (http://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php/File:Pathfinding-figure04.png)
[18:33] <wjp> the explanation is right there above the figure
[18:34] <omer_mor> waltervn: ok, I get it now
[18:34] <m_kiewitz> omer_mor: good luck reverse engineering the old algo :P I'm all for that, but it will introduce tons of bugs. I think waltervn even said that Sierra changed it quite a bit
[18:35] <omer_mor> m_kiewitz: not saying that I would, but I want to know if the team is willing to challenge the patent by implementing it?
[18:36] <m_kiewitz> in any case, i would definitely keep walter's algo in there in any case at least as an option
[18:37] <waltervn> I don't know know to what extent it has changed over time, but in the earliest versions the contained polygon type is completely missing, and points on the edge of the screen are handled differently. Considering all the changes we see in other kernel functions, it'd really surprise me if kAvoidPath had stayed the same for what, six years?
[18:37] <m_kiewitz> i actually thought about RE'ing the original as well. But it's quite some work

[21:37] <_sev> finally!
[21:37] <_sev> wjp: Thanks a lot
[21:37] <digitall> wjp: ditto...
[21:38] <digitall> Are all the historical bugs transferred as well?
[21:38] <digitall> Or just the current open ones?
[21:38] <_sev> digitall: everything
[21:38] <digitall> \o/
[21:38] <digitall> Optimal.
[21:40] <digitall> Sorry have been away for work... Very frazzled so of no use to anyone.
[21:42] <digitall> wjp: Thanks for doing this.

[21:51] <snover> wjp: may want to delete the default milestones, iirc that should hide milestones from everywhere
[21:52] <_sev> m_kiewitz: yes. The only thing left to move is the mailing lists
[21:52] <m_kiewitz> _sev: "The requested URL /https://bugs.scummvm.org was not found on this server."

[22:06] <wjp> Did anybody already dare to make a change on the bug tracker? :-)
[22:07] <snover> wjp: ill do it!
[22:07] <DrMcCoy> wjp: <span>An email has been sent to <drmccoy(at)drmccoy(dot)de> with a token to <a href="/verify_email">verify your new email address</a>.</span>
[22:09] <wjp> does the actual process work, despite the cosmetic problem?
[22:09] <DrMcCoy> Seems so, yes. Got a mail with a link and it verified my email address
[22:10] <criezy> But do we actually have to set the email adress? It seems to be already set.
[22:10] <criezy> Also when I try to save the preferences I get "Warning: The email address specified is already in use. Please specify a different one."
[22:10] <DrMcCoy> My email address wasn't already set
[22:12] <wjp> the code for this verification message was apparently changed in recent svn
[22:13] <wjp> too late now, but will check soon if I can update that plugin
[22:13] <wjp> criezy: odd. Does it show the correct email address in Preferences?
[22:13] Action: wjp also checks database
[22:13] <criezy> Yes. I assumed it got it from GitHub maybe?
[22:14] <criezy> Or maybe that was when we did tests on the tracker a few months ago?

[22:15] <wjp> the database has been reset, so it couldn't be from back then, in theory
[22:15] <wjp> but the database agrees that your email address is set, anyway

[22:17] <queqk> Hi there, I need help by someone running scummvm on android 4.4
[22:19] <queqk> The whole thing is upside-down. I cant finde the ini anywhere to edit around that, neither can I find the "monkey" that would allow turning the screen in older versions
[22:19] <snover> wjp: there, i did something. :)
[22:19] <queqk> device is galaxy tab-e
[22:19] <snover> for some reason trac thought i changed the description, which is a little weird, because i didnt
[22:20] <-- Polynomial-C left irc: Quit: GNU/Linux, because I'd rather own a free OS than steal one that's not worth paying for.

[22:25] <criezy> Are SCI save game supposed to be compatible between big endian and little endian systems?
[22:25] <criezy> (see http://forums.scummvm.org/viewtopic.php?t=14145 for context on my question)

[22:27] <snover> wjp: yes
[22:27] <queqk> sweet, the screen rotated on start and everything looks fine
[22:27] <snover> wjp: from me, no To header
[22:28] <queqk> Thanks a lot _sev =)
[22:30] <wjp> ok, I think I see the (weirdly named) setting that controls the To header
[22:31] <wjp> anyway, bed time now. Please don't break too much ;-)

[22:34] <m_kiewitz> criezy: I think that's my script patcher bug. I fixed that 2 months ago.
[22:34] <m_kiewitz> the bug made the script patcher not work properly on BE platforms
[22:35] <criezy> Ha OK. If needed I can make some tests on a PPC mac this week-end to confirm that.
[22:36] <m_kiewitz> i got a Pandora, can try it out on it.
[22:37] <m_kiewitz> if you can, please try it out on PPC Mac as well just to make sure. But I bet it's that
[22:38] <criezy> OK. Will do.
[22:38] <somaen> Hey, it's actually possible to find the bugs for Wintermute now
[22:38] <somaen> I mean, yes, it sort of was before too, but it seems slightly less tedious
[22:39] <criezy> Is that a good thing or a bad thing?
[22:39] <criezy> :P
[22:41] <somaen> I wasn't aware of quite a few of the ones I found now
[22:41] <somaen> Mostly because I really couldn't be bothered with the old bug tracker, filtering was.... tedious at best
[22:45] <dreammaster> I'll add my congratulations on finally moving the bug tracker over

[22:57] <criezy> No, there is no PPC Mac daily builds.
[22:57] <criezy> We had to disable it because with the toolchain we had it failed to generate the binary which had become too big.
[22:57] <criezy> But I can generate a build manually if needed on my system.
[22:59] <dreammaster> Darn.. and I suppose the addition of Titanic, with yet another 1000 classes worth of code didn't help any :P
[23:06] <criezy> It had sunk long before Titanic arrived. At this point one more iceberg would not change anything ;)
[23:06] <criezy> s/iceberg/engine
[23:06] <criezy> sometime I wonder how my brain works...
[23:14] <m_kiewitz> criezy: we can't change PPC Mac to plug-in based?
[23:15] <criezy> No idea. I would need to check how plug-in works and if that is compatible with OS X application bundles.
[23:17] <m_kiewitz> has anyone played "The fall"? it seems to be some sort of Metroidvania + Monkey Island humor
[23:23] <snover> m_kiewitz: i played it. i dont recall it being funny.
