[04:00] phantasmagoria in particular really benefits from this since it uses the choral instruments heavily [04:14] I always heard that fluid (or even coreaudio) were great "close enough" solutions. This is the first time I am hearing that it is actually better for the later SCI games. What I heard was that they were composed for the SC-55 (the old ones were composed for the MT-32) [04:17] SC-55 had some extended features which General MIDI does not, and as far as I know the compositions dont use them, though I havent done a lot of digging about it. [04:19] fluid comes with a supplemental GS soundfont too though ive never really known how one is intended to use it. [04:19] fluid the soundfont, not fluidsynth the softsynth. this is confusing, i now. [04:23] I was talking about the GS soundfont [04:23] The instrument maps in GM and GS are different yes? [04:24] no, GS just has more of them [04:25] according to wikipedia [04:25] Hmm. I thought GS predates GM [04:27] Nope. I was wrong [04:27] I assumed MT-32 was a specific kind of GS but no they're completely separate standards. [18:45] snover: so you can do things like system("/path/to/browser http://foo/bar ; rm -rf /" [18:45] ) [18:45] by passing "http://foo/bar ; rm -rf /" as the "url" [18:46] The file parameter to posix_spawnp() shall be used to construct a pathname that identifies the new process image file. If the file parameter contains a character, the file parameter shall be used as the pathname for the new process image file. Otherwise, the path prefix for this file shall be obtained by a search of the directories passed as the environment variable PATH [18:46] snover: things like posix_spawn() etc. take the arguments as a string array [18:46] snover: so you can't pull of stuff like that [18:46] maybe execlp should be used like for opening the log file, just above [18:46] logix: yes, i know that too, thats why i am asking about it. [18:47] snover: oh - ok - then, "yes, posix_spawn() is better and that's probably what they're complaning about" :) [18:47] the command injection is possible precisely because the arguments is dumped unescaped as a shell command, and i dont know what extra things system does that posix_spawn/posix_spawnp does not do which are actually needed. [18:47] are dumped* [18:47] Strangerke (~Strangerk@cable-85.28.84.13.coditel.net) left irc: Ping timeout: 264 seconds [18:48] snover: I don't think there's much needed here - it's pretty much "call browser, pass url as first argument" [18:49] logix: yes, i know. that is why i am asking about it. [18:49] there are considerations like the one bgK mentioned, about whether it searches PATH, and probably other things i dont know about. [18:50] snover: ah - sorry, I missed that, that's a good point [18:50] snover: I think that's the big difference between posix_spawn() and posix_spawnp() [18:51] yes, i see that from reading the documentation. im not asking about the difference between those, i am asking about the difference between the posix_spawn family and the system call and whether system can be replaced by it without breaking any intended functionality. [18:52] snover: well - "launch program somewhere in PATH, pass url as first argument", so if you ask me, I'd say posix_spawnp() works as a replacement [18:55] Guest13621 (~tompsson@h-239-55.A199.priv.bahnhof.se) left irc: [18:56] Tomaz^ (~tompsson@176.10.239.55) joined #scummvm. [23:08] it wont fail on the new buildbot [23:09] It is actually a failure on my old OS X system (10.6) but not on the new macOS one (10.12). [23:09] I was in the process of checking that. [23:11] And since openUrl is reimplemented in the macosx backend anyway I suppose we could just wrap this posix version in a #ifndef MACOSX / #endif... [23:12] it is in the 10.8 sdk, and supposedly also in 10.6 man pages according to https://www.unix.com/man-page/osx/2/posix_spawnp/, so im not sure what to make of that [23:12] Port build status changed with 008149e3: Failure: master-dingux [23:12] Yes, it is in the man page, but not in the SDK. [23:13] is there any hardware which actually supports 10.6 and not 10.8? [23:14] i looked this up once, and forgot. [23:15] I am not sure my 32 bits intel iMac does. But I have no intention to update anyway since 10.6 is the last version with which I can use PPC applications. [23:17] Indeed it doesn't seem to support 10.8 anyway. [23:20] hm, I can compile and run what is essentially posix_spawnp(&pid, "/bin/ls", NULL, NULL,{"/bin/ls", NULL}, NULL); on 10.6 [23:20] (that 5th argument is pseudo code...) [23:20] compiled with "gcc -o psp psp.c" [23:21] er, 6th argument is envp, not that it should matter [23:22] so where is posix_spawnp declared in the sdk? [23:22] Oh yes. It does compile. [23:22] My ealier test were done with the PPC environment, so actually using the 10.4 SDK, not 10.6. [23:23] snover: how do I check that? otool -L says the binary is linked against /usr/lib/libSystem.B.dylib, does that answer the question? [23:28] snover: I guess so, yeah [23:28] I am just waiting for the compilation to finish to make sure I did it properly. [23:28] That machine is a bit slow. [23:28] i can imagine. [23:31] Isn't the buildbot using the 10,6 SDKs though? [23:31] If should find the file (in the sdk /sur/include directory) if that is the case. [23:31] nope, the old buildbot is old and it is using a 10.4 sdk. [23:32] Port build status changed with 008149e3: Failure: master-gcw0 [23:32] Ah OK. So same issue than me then. [23:32] i dont know what is the deal with these dingux devices, apparently their linux derivative isnt linux enough [23:36] for gcw0 this will hopefully be resolved when the cross-compiler is updated to 6.3, since then it will get the correct linux headers [23:37] no idea if those devices even are able to open a browser or not though.
