[12:28] <androiduser> Hello. I used ScummVM 1.5 from f-droid for a while. Recently I installed official ScummVM 1.9.0 package and can't configure touchscreen/mouse the same way it was in 1.5. It was sort of "touchpad" mode: if I touch screen and move finger it moves mouse, no clicks, and if I touch and release screen at the same point - it does left click. Is that still possible?
[12:30] <androiduser> It's just I see a lot of options in "Change Device Configuration" / "Mouse emulation" menu, but can't set it up the simple and easy to use way it was before.
[12:30] <-- Poly-C left irc: Quit: GNU/Linux, because I'd rather own a free OS than steal one that's not worth paying for.

[12:55] <t0by> androiduser, hi
[12:56] <t0by> I tbh have no idea not owning an android device but one of the android guys will probably answer, stay tuned

[13:13] <-- m_kiewitz left irc: Ping timeout: 264 seconds
[13:16] <logix> androiduser: if it's any way like on ios then I *THINK* there was some gesture that switched between the two modes
[13:18] <logix> androiduser: not sure what version you have, http://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php/Android#Touchscreen or http://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php/Android-SDL#Mouse_Emulation might help
[13:19] <logix> if it's the first, then going to the main options dialog, (un-)checking "mixed adlib/midi" in the midi tab and restarting should help
[13:22] <androiduser> logix: Yes! http://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php/Android#Touchscreen is exactly how it WAS in scummvm 1.5 from f-droid. But when I installed official scummvm 1.9 I got that new "Change Device Configuration" button, and can't find a way to have "Tap+movement=Mouse movement" again. Each tap generates a mouse-down event now. :(
[13:29] <logix> androiduser: sounds like what's described on the android-sdl port page
[13:29] <logix> mouse emulation -> advanced features -> relative mouse movement
[13:29] <logix> it sounds to me as if touchpad mode / relative mouse mode is what you're looking for
[13:38] <androiduser> logix: No, "relative/laptop mode" is a different thing. Usually mouse cursor moves under my finger. With "relative/laptop mode" enabled mouse cursor remains where it is, but moves in sync with my finger, similar to how laptop touchpad works. But it still generates mousedown event every time I touch the screen. I'll try to explain in details...
[13:41] <androiduser> With my finger I can touch screen, move the finger and release the screen. Well, obviously. :) Those generates some mouse events. So the old mode that I'm looking dor: touch+release=left_click, touch+move_finger+release=mouse move, no clicks. But what I have now: touch=mouse_down, move=mouse_move, release=mouse_up. So touch+release=left_click BUT touch+move_finger+release=mouse down+move+release.
[13:41] <androiduser> Basically I can't move the mouse without clicking on something.
[13:42] <logix> aah
[13:42] <logix> ok, then I have been misunderstanding the whole time, I thought it was about direct vs touchpad mode
[13:42] <logix> sorry, then what I wrote really doesn't help
[13:44] <androiduser> Yeah, sorry, I probably confused you when I called that "touchpad mode". It's just very similar to how laptop touchpad works - tapping the touchpad generates a left-click, and moving the finger through touchpad moves the mouse without clicks.
[13:46] <t0by> tapping the touchpad generates a left-click only if you set it up in a barbaric fashion :P
[13:46] <t0by> (jk)
[13:47] <androiduser> t0by: I'm old-fashioned. :) What's the modern way? ;)
[13:47] <t0by> Since the days of yore, civilised people have clicked with the touchpad button and disabled tap-to-click. So it is written.
[13:48] <t0by> (Also in the days of yore we had trackballs, so that might be the reason :P )
[13:49] <t0by> Tkachov, you did some work on the UI, right?
[13:50] <t0by> Can you help out this fine chap?
[13:56] <androiduser> Ah, yeah, maybe. :) I usually preferred tap-to-click because I could do it without looking at touchpad - it's easy to miss hardware touchpad button, but it's hard to miss entire touchpad, especially when your fingers are over it already. :)
[14:01] <androiduser> TL;DR: I'm looking for a way to have controls like http://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php/Android#Touchscreen in official ScummVM 1.9.0. In particular I want to be able to move the mouse cursor around without clicking on anything.
[14:03] <androiduser> In games it's sometimes useful to see how mouse cursor looks like on different items. It may look like a hand on items that you can pick up, or it may look like an arrow on a door/passage. So sometimes I just want to move the mouse cursor around and look at it without clicking anything. :)
[14:30] <logix> out of curiosity, does it make a difference if you use the apk from scummvm.org?
[14:31] <logix> I doubt it will, it sounds unlikely to me that whoever maintains the f-droid port made any changes like this, but you never know...
[14:38] <androiduser> logix: I am using official 1.9.0 package from scummvm.org, as f-droid still has 1.5.0 version: https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdid=org.scummvm.scummvm
[14:40] <androiduser> (they couldn't build a newer version due to some flac and patches issues)
[14:55] <logix> androiduser: oh, oops - right, that's what you wrote up there, sigh, I should read more carefully
[14:55] <androiduser> no problem :)
[14:56] <logix> androiduser: hm, in that case... it might help to try out the official 1.5.0 to see how that behaves
[14:56] <logix> then you'll at least know if it is a change since 1.5.0 or if f-droid does something special to give you the behavior you want

[23:46] <androiduser> Still looking for a way to get ScummVM 1.7.0 controls ( http://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php/Android#Touchscreen ) in ScummVM 1.9.0. In particular I want to move the mouse cursor around without clicking on anything (having a scummvm menu on "Menu" button would be nice too, can't switch games in ScummVM 1.9 without it). Any suggestions welcome!
[23:48] <androiduser> logix: Thanks for your suggestion by the way. I tested official android builds, and ScummVM 1.7 has the same "touchpad-like" controls too. It was a regression in ScummVM between 1.7 and 1.9. My guess: it was a switch to a new SDL backend, which lacks those features.
