[09:52] <fuzzie> g'morning
[09:53] <LordHoto> fuzzie!
[09:55] <wjp> hello
[09:55] <LordHoto> wjp!
[09:59] <wjp> oh, updated config.{guess,sub}
[10:00] <eriktorbjorn> fuzzie: I've heard you're involved with the "Living Books" support in the Mohawk engine, is that right?
[10:06] <fuzzie> eriktorbjorn: I think it's a bit too late to disclaim responsibility :-)
[10:08] <eriktorbjorn> fuzzie: I don't know if clone2727 mentioned, but I was trying to get a Mac version of "Just Grandma And Me" to run, and ScummVM wouldn't recognize it. With some help, I was able to get it to run using http://www.update.uu.se/~d91tan/ScummVM/livingbooks.diff.txt but apparently my change to convertMacFileName() isn't really what we want to do. (The filenames contain / characters, which obviously need to be renamed when using Linux.)
[10:09] <eriktorbjorn> And apparently I should have put the name of the executable ("Just Grandma and Me") somwhere in that detection entry.
[10:09] <fuzzie> ah yes, because it would be nice to have it work with the original disk..
[10:09] <fuzzie> what does Linux convert the slashes to?
[10:10] <fuzzie> the last 0 is the executable name, I think, from memory, but probably it's clear :)
[10:11] <-- ajax16384 left irc: Read error: Connection reset by peer
[10:11] <eriktorbjorn> fuzzie: I don't know if there's any standard for it, but using hfsutils converted spaces to "_" (unnecessary, if you ask me) and "/" to "-". At least by default. But clone2727 thought it was better to change the "/" to "_" for some reason I can't remember.

[10:13] <wjp> (broken permissions in the PR, so did a manual commit, in case anyone wondered)
[10:13] <eriktorbjorn> fuzzie: By the way, the CD I bought only has the Macintosh version of the game, not the Windows one, and it's in English, Spanish and Japanese. I don't know if that's common or not.
[10:13] <fuzzie> hm, I would have thought ':' would be ideal, but complicated
[10:13] <fuzzie> eriktorbjorn: I haven't seen it, but that doesn't mean much at this point..
[10:13] <fuzzie> I should really collect more versions
[10:13] <fuzzie> but I already have a couple of variants of most of the games
[10:14] <eriktorbjorn> fuzzie: I came across it by accident at a local second-hand store.
[10:15] <stekern> wjp: thanks, me and permissions, eh... ;)
[10:17] <wjp> interestingly it was in the reverse direction this time
[10:17] <fuzzie> eriktorbjorn: does the game work otherwise?
[10:17] <wjp> keeps us on our toes :-)
[10:17] <eriktorbjorn> fuzzie: Not sure, but it started and showed the first screen at least.
[10:18] <fuzzie> the first in-game (story/play) screen?
[10:18] <eriktorbjorn> fuzzie: Yes.
[10:18] <fuzzie> okay, neat. thanks.
[10:18] <fuzzie> Someday I will find time to go back and finish Rugrats support.
[10:19] <fuzzie> Right now it breaks .. somewhere, at startup.
[10:19] <fuzzie> In a maze of excessively complicated nested scripts.
[10:19] <eriktorbjorn> Ah, I still have that patch applied locally, so I can try a few more screens I guess. :-)
[10:20] <fuzzie> (but, yes, clone2727 did mention it, but I am buried in university until Dec 19th)
[10:20] <eriktorbjorn> By the way, the CD also had two audio tracks, but I guess they're just bonus, not used in the game?
[10:20] <fuzzie> I hope so. ;)
[10:21] <fuzzie> Maybe that's why they didn't include the Windows version (although I think usually the hybrid disks just used identical data files).
[10:22] <eriktorbjorn> Seems to be working. Not that I know what the game's supposed to be like, but...
[10:22] <fuzzie> "We went to the beach, just Grandma and Me"?
[10:23] <fuzzie> I am never going to forget these stories :(
[10:24] <eriktorbjorn> fuzzie: Never heard of it, though I guess the style is slightly reminiscent of a Richard Scarry (I think) book I had as a kid.

[10:26] <fuzzie> The Tortoise And The Hare is when they started doing it well (and I think Green Eggs and Ham was the pinnacle, although it's not perfect in ScummVM).
[10:27] <eriktorbjorn> Anyway, I've got to run. Have to go shopping for a new washing machine, of all things. Sometimes being grown up is boring.
[10:27] <fuzzie> :-)
[10:28] <eriktorbjorn> I mean, just imagine all the fun stuff you could have done as a kid with that kind of money. :-)

[17:06] <Vanfanel> Schnabeltierchen: I have that board here and I can run scummvm on it, but I had to tweak SDL to do so
[17:07] <Vanfanel> Schnabeltierchen: the problem is that SDL relies on an outdated piece of software like SDL 1.x

[20:03] <m_kiewitz> y no PS3 :(
[20:04] <[md5]> ooh shiny
[20:04] <[md5]> nice
[20:04] <[md5]> well, PS3 is considered obsolete with PS4, so...
[20:04] Action: [md5] wears his anti-flame hat
[20:05] <m_kiewitz> well that special edition was 80% done already some ages ago
[20:06] <[md5]> I on the other hand, wonder why they won't release it to XBox one
[20:06] <Sir_Burpalot> I wonder if they're going to redo the voiceovers from scratch or use the original ones.
[20:06] <[md5]> they could always use ScummVM for their release ;)
[20:06] <m_kiewitz> and some ass-hat CEO at LucasArts wasn't interested
[20:06] <m_kiewitz> http://kotaku.com/how-lucasarts-fell-apart-1401731043

[20:07] <m_kiewitz> Singapore, never to be touched again.
[20:08] <Sir_Burpalot> I wish someone would do a remake of QFG4 or Dreamweb.
[20:09] <[md5]> most important is this bit, IMHO: "LucasArts was a company paralyzed by dysfunction, apathy, and indecision from executives at the highest levels."
[20:09] <[md5]> that sums it up, really

[20:11] <[md5]> e.g. one of their biggest franchises after Star Wars was Indiana Jones... and there weren't any serious recent game titles
[20:11] <[md5]> http://indianajones.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_Indiana_Jones_video_games
[20:14] <m_kiewitz> well some other ass-hat at lucasarts actually didn't want to release an almost finished port of the 2 Gamecube Star Wars games for Wii (which had lots of enhancements and lots of content etc.)
[20:16] <m_kiewitz> ahh, scratch that. it was 50% done
[20:16] <m_kiewitz> http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/10/10/more-cancelled-star-wars-games-revealed
[20:16] <m_kiewitz> but it was actually all 3 games. so the 2 from gamecube and the one from n64
[20:19] <t0by> Did those feature Jar Jar?
[20:20] <t0by> maybe we kinda dodged a bullet there.
[20:20] <m_kiewitz> it was the classic rogue squadron for N64, rogue squadron II for gamecube and rebel strike for gamecube
[20:21] <m_kiewitz> no jar jar to be found
[20:22] <m_kiewitz> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-X8C_8nJQ4
[20:22] <m_kiewitz> maybe someone at disney may get a hint and release it for wii u at some point
[20:23] <t0by> Wait, are those FMV or it's actual live graphics from the... Wii?
[20:23] <m_kiewitz> those were actual graphics on gamecube
[20:23] <t0by> Damn, I thought that thing was more like the DS in terms of capability
[20:24] <m_kiewitz> rogue squadron 2 was a launch title and it's still one if not the best looking game on gamecube
[20:24] <m_kiewitz> and it was 60fps
[20:24] <t0by> Whoah.
[20:24] <m_kiewitz> and they even had the original rebel squadron 2 levels included in rebel strike for coop gameplay
[20:24] <m_kiewitz> split screen
[20:26] <eriktorbjorn> It also says the remastered version of Grim Fandango will be released on January 27. Didn't expect it that soon.
